How do I open the command prompt?

The command prompt, sometimes referred to as the terminal, is a very useful tool to run and debug code. This article will explain how to open it on different operating systems.

On Windows

On Windows, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time. A dialog box with the title “run” should appear. Type “cmd” into the box and hit enter. The window that opens up is the command prompt.

On MacOS

On MacOS, press the command and the space bar at the same time to open Spotlight. Type “Terminal” and hit enter. The command prompt should open up.

On Ubuntu

On Ubuntu, press the Control, Alt and T keys at the same time. The command prompt should open up.
